Time to switch to alternative methods of heating Feb 15, 2022

CPI_2graph202201_en

We managed to cut our heating bill in half by switching from gas to electricity and by switching from T shirts and shorts to jerseys and trousers.

But what if you already have the cheapest energy alternative?
A lot of people are not as wasteful as that kind of advice wants us to believe.
It's part of good business rationale to avoid wasting money in the production process.

So after you've done the full calculation (installation costs etc.) and leaving aside the obvious benefits (not burning fossil fuel, no maintenance required etc.) is it cheaper in the Netherlands to heat with electricity rather than gas?

For a translator working from home all the time, heating costs are a big factor as compared to someone who is away from home all day.

I have a 300 watt infrared panel aimed at my trunk and it is sufficient for my heating needs at the computer, even with subzero temperatures outside. There's no need to heat up the entire house or even an entire room.

But I'm being a hypocrite -- our landlord recently overhauled the house's insulation (triple glazing, etc.).

What next Feb 16, 2022

Let's wait for the next pandemic.
Based on offer and demand, prices should decrease.

The winter isn't cold at the moment.
I have also been working a few days with low heating power.
That's CO2-working for you.

Same here. I'm not happy - we've only had a couple of really cold days. Very hot summer to come - too hot. Let's all do what we can, and must, to stop overheating the planet.

Stormy here too at the moment Feb 16, 2022

There is a light storm here going on at the moment. 20 years ago we didn't have that.
During the last years it happened twice that approximetaly 5 years fell down during such heavy winds.
