Hi everybody,

I've just come across with this interesting article about "closing old Kudoz questions" (link: "Closing old KudoZ questions") written by a colleague of ours. Well, I totally agree with him. Please just have a look at it, it's not so big an article and it's worth reading it. All open old Kudoz questions should have some feedback sooner or later...even if they're not the best solution the asker was looking for !!! Hi everybody,

I've just come across with this interesting article about "closing old Kudoz questions" (link: "Closing old KudoZ questions") written by a colleague of ours. Well, I totally agree with him. Please just have a look at it, it's not so big an article and it's worth reading it. All open old Kudoz questions should have some feedback sooner or later...even if they're not the best solution the asker was looking for !!! By the way it is an important contribution to our web community !!! And we all spend a little bit of our "precious" time to help others...

I'd like to know what you think about it !!!

Very interesting article and I totally agree with its point.

What I actually would like to add is that sometimes I see that some answers which do not sound well in the target language even though they might be technically right are selected only because they have the best peer agreement and there is a tendency to overevaluate precision rather than well crafted language.

Maybe obviously this is just my impression since each one of us has its own sensitivity to the langua... See more

The sensitivity thing is true for example when it comes to cuss words (e.g. once an editor asked me why I had changed all cuss words in the text and made them more palatable)

However language for me is not only and always about precision. It's about sounding well even though you might sacrifice a bit of precision. And the fact that "you say like that" in the language because literature has fixed such translation that does not mean you can't find a better one, a new one, a different one. If it were like that there should be no progress in translation.

So we don't have a real proof that the answer with the best peer agreement is the proper translation but because some people who are reading at the moment believe that that translation could be right then it is selected...

certainly that would mean finding another way to rate translation which would still have to be the result of deep thinking

I don't know, I would really like to know what you all think about that...
