Zdrojový text - angličtina Tetanus can result from trivial or even unnoticed wounds, so up-to-date immunization is the only protection. But you would never know it from reading newspapers or watching television or perusing the posters on your doctor’s waiting-room wall.
To get things in perspective, there were 62 cases of tetanus reported nationally between 1981 and 1987, so it is hardly an epidemic. But what is important is not the statistics but the potential for strong, healthy adults to die unnecessarily when tetanus is so easy to prevent.
Lockjaw, as tetanus is commonly called, is caused by a toxin produced by certain bacilli that grow in a wound. It can affect people of any age and has an incubation period of from four to 21 days, though from seven to ten days is usual. After that, muscle rigidity with increasingly painful spasms occurs. Death results from respiratory failure , high or low blood pressure, and irregular heartbeat. An unpleasant way to die, as anyone would agree.
Most people have been immunized when they were children, but a booster injection is needed every ten years to maintain immunity. If you have never had a booster shot, you may need a full course of three injections over six months.

Postihuje osoby všech věkových kategorií s inkubační dobou pohybující se mezi čtyřmi až jednadvaceti dny, obvykle však mezi sedmi až deseti dny. Po tomto období dochází ke ztuhnutí svalů s neustále bolestivějšími křečemi. Ke smrti dochází selháním dýchání, vysokým nebo nízkým krevním tlakem a nepravidelnou srdeční činností. Nepříjemný způsob úmrtí, jak bychom se všichni shodli.
Většina lidí byla očkována v dětství, pro udržení obranyschopnosti je třeba každých deset let udělat přeočkování. Pokud Vám nikdy nebylo provedeno přeočkování, budete praděpodobně potřebovat celou sérii tří injekcí aplikovaných v průběhu šesti měsíců

Jednoho dne však do země přišla pyšná, hrozně nafoukaná, zlá stowatová žárovka Hedvika.
Hedvika :
No, konečně jsem tady!! To neumíte pozdravit, když jsem přišla?
Hele, Ty nekoukej a sežeň mi objímku! A teď už mně běž z cesty!! Tahle je jenom moje!
Vypravěč:
To bylo překvapení! Takovou zlou žárovku ještě nepoznaly.
Hedvika:
To koukáte, kdo je tady nejhezčí!? No řekněte -kdo? No, no, no??? No přeci já!!!! Já jsem ta nejhezčí!
No a teď to nejdůležitější. Dobře se dívejte! Pozooor – to je krása, co? Aby moje krása ještě víc vynikla – hned všechny zhasněte!! Svítit budu jenom já, protože jsem tady nová a ze všech nejkrásnější. Takže mě budete co? – takže mě budete poslouchat! No to bysme měli! A teď všichni zhasněte – šup, šup.. Nebo se naštvu!!
Vypravěč:
Překvapené žárovky ani nemrkly a zhasly.Až na jednu, která svítila docela vzadu a Hedviku ani neslyš
Co to vidím?!!! To snad ne?!!! Ty jsi nerozuměla? Okamžitě zhasni, nebo uvidíš!!!

Finally I am here!! You don’t know how to greet, once I am here? Hey, You! Don’t stare and get me a light socket! And now get out of my way!! This one is only mine!
Storyteller:
That was a surprise! They didn’t meet such an evil bulb before.
Hedvika:
Look out, who is the prettiest here!? Well say – who? Well, well, indeed?? Well, of course it’s me!!!! I am the prettiest one!
And now - the most important thing. Have a good look! Watch out – what a beauty I am, what do you reckon? And so that my beauty would stand out even more – you must all immediately switch off!! It will be only me who will shine, because I am the new one here and the prettiest of all. And so you will do what? You will listen to me! Well, you will do so! And now you will all switch off - hurry up. Otherwise you will be in big trouble!!
Storyteller:
Surprised Bulbs didn’t even blink and switched off. Except One, that was shining totally at the back and didn’t hear Hedvika or didn’t understand her, because it was still too little.
Hedvika:
What can I see? I can’t believe that?!!! You didn’t understand? Switch off immediately otherwise You will see!!!
