Discussion

Vladimír Hoffman Oct 20, 2011:
Overheating is application of excessive heat in certain area. Overburning is not used in this context, as the term usually means burning CD/DVD over its presumed capacity. Maybe there is some special technical English term for burning through pipe walls, but I don't know it.
Hannah Geiger (X) Oct 20, 2011:
well, I don't know - overheating leads to burning, and overburning is redundant, so...IMH
Vladimír Hoffman Oct 20, 2011:
Overheating means prehriatie (also mentioned in the sentence), prepálenie is stronger, it occurs when a flame fully or partially burns THROUGH a pipe wall.
Hannah Geiger (X) Oct 20, 2011:
sorry, it was a typo - cracks

cracks/cracking due to excessive heating/temperature

Just a different formulation. Hannah's "overheating" is also fine in this context, assuming we're talking about attaining a temperature beyond the device's manufacturing tolerances.
