For example," one can promote a positive charge" by deleting one or more amino acids (e.g., from 1 to about 3 amino acid residues) that are not basic/positively charged or that are less positively charged (e.g., as determined by pKa). Alternatively, or in addition, "positive charge can be promoted" by adding one or more amino acids (e.g., from 1 to about 3 amino acid residues) that are basic/positively charged or more positively charged (e.g., as determined by pKa) than the residues they replace.
