Catalan term

aposta pel coneixement i la innovació

Catalan to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy
It's a slogan used on the new UAB website. Because it's likely to be used for many years to come, and will probably used in other texts, I want to make sure I get a good translation. My current ideas are:

Providing Knowledge and Innovation
Knowledge and Innovation
Supporting Knowledge and Innovation
Encouraging Knowledge and Innovation
Promoting Knowledge and Innovation

I think the last two are the best "up with which" I have come;-). "Providing" seems to imply that the students are passive, so I think I'll avoid that one. For the moment I'm going for "promoting", but I'd like to see what you guys think.

Bon cap de setmana a tothom.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Nov 15, 2004:
Comments I like SwissTell's proposition, although Joaquim does have a point. "Promoting knowledge and innovation" gets quite a lot of hits with Google, but a slogan is supposed to be unique, so I don't think that is necessarily good. I'm thinking of using SwissTell's proposition, but with a comma instead of "and", i.e. "Promoting knowledge, encouraging innovation". I'm sure lots of adverts have slogans like this (gerund1 noun1, gerund2 noun2), but I can't think of any examples at the moment. If you could let me have a second opinion on my proposition, that would be great.

promoting knowledge and encouraging innovation!

how about a combination of the last 2 which are basically your favorites and mine.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks."

Go for knowledge and innovation / new ways of doing things

As a slogan this would be my version. Personally, I don't like "innovation". It's not a generally accepted word in publicity. But, above all, avoid the gerund (-ing).
Peer comment(s):

neutral Berni Armstrong : Why avoid the gerund Margaret? it simply implies "This is what we do" and is used in many slogans I have come across.

Promoting Knowledge and Innovation

Jo no hi posaria "encouraging"; no crec que aporti res de nou al primer verb. A més a més, així sona més "catchy". És una idea.
Bona sort

I see what you mean. Jo diria que la teva proposta, amb la coma, és prou bona... Sona bé. És directe, si més no. Més que no pas amb l´\"and\". Sort. Quim.
