phonemes
a phoneme (from the Greek: φώνημα, phōnēma, "a sound uttered") is the smallest segmental unit of sound employed to form meaningful contrasts between utterances.
For example, the words tip and dip illustrate that [t] and [d] are separate phonemes, /t/ and /d/, in English - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoneme
--------------------------------
There are 51 phonemes in the Polish language. The phonetic set consists of 8 vowels and 43 consonants. The vowels and their pronunciation criterion are the following - http://tinyurl.com/yzucjcn - page 4.

Zamiast "voiceless" może być "unvoiced".

: there is no such thing as voiceless sounds. //nie jest odpowiednim tłumaczeniem "głoski dwiękowo podobne". voiceless sounds to by było- "dzwięki bezdżwięczne"?- to chyba nie miało by sensu. ok?

similar sounding sounds

example-
Phonological Awareness is basically a skill that trains your child's ear to discriminate between similar sounding sounds. You will know if your childhas NOT developed good phonological awareness, because they will have difficulty in hearing the difference between words such as
•gate, mate, weight, late
•free, three, tree, see, she
Phonological awareness is another pre-phonics skill that trains a child's ear to discriminate between similar sounding sounds (with phonemic awareness, children will distinguish between "three" from words like "free" or "tree").

: To są głoski podobnie brzmiące - termin "głoski dzwiękowo-podobne" ma specyficzne/konkretne znaczenie (jak w dyskusji i w mojej odpowiedzi).

phonemes
In many cases we find that some phonemes are very hard to recognize as independent entities. They tend to have the same characteristics as other phonemes which are very similar. For this reason the neural network has a tough time distinguishing among very similar phonemes. One of the design steps is to identify these phonemes and then map them to some central representing phoneme. http://cslu.cse.ogi.edu/toolkit/old/old/version2.0a/document...
