Być z czymś w lesie. - nie wyrabiać się z czymś, zawalać coś...

zakładam, że 'be in the woods with sth.' nie istnieje ;-)
Change log

Aug 4, 2011 15:40: M.A.B. changed "Level" from "Non-PRO" to "PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (3): Tomasz Poplawski, Darius Saczuk, M.A.B.

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Darius Saczuk Aug 4, 2011:
To znaczy przynamniej 1) kto? 2) gdzie? 3) kiedy? 4) w jakim celu?
Darius Saczuk Aug 4, 2011:
A można zdanie i cokolwiek kontekstu? Idiomatycznie powiem: "one size does not fit all...".

agree Tomasz Poplawski : bardziej barwne niż "not to be ready", a precyzyjniejsze niż ta metafora kajakowa

up a river without a paddle

If you up a river without a paddle, you are in an unfortunate situation, unprepared and with none of the resources to remedy the matter.

Kolejna propozycja. Idiomy amerykańskie, może nie pierwszej świeżości, ale ja po polsku też w tym kontekście wyrażenia "być w lesie" rzadko, jeżeli w ogóle, używam.

from http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/idioms/u.html

Na tej samej stronie: UP THE CREEK (WITHOUT A PADDLE) - If someone or something is up the creek, they are in real trouble. 'Up the creek without a paddle' is an alternative, and 'up shit creek (without a paddle)' is a ruder form.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Polangmar : "Być w lesie" znaczy mieć duże zaległości/opóźnienie - "up a river without a paddle" jest bez związku.

Definicja z odnośnika: "unprepared and with none of the resources to remedy the matter". Strona z idiomami nie jest niepodważalnym źródłem, ale związek na pewno jest. Zwłaszcza, że szerszego kontekstu brak.
