the Heimat archives
Heimat is a German word with no exact English equivalent. You could call it “homeland” but it is a lot more than that. I think of it as a sense of belonging to a place, people, feelings, smell, taste, language and everything that makes you feel home, psychologically. Heimat often comes from childhoods. - https://www.bloglovin.com/blog/post/1636425/3061556935
-----------
Ortsbetreuers are often very helpful and most enthusiastic when it comes to helping someone learn about the Heimat and about the people who lived there.
They will provide you with whatever information they have that will help you. You may even find that the Ortsbetreuer is your own distant cousin or who does research in the Heimat archives and is willing to do some extra work for you!!! Ortsbetreuers are also in the position to help you get copies of out of print Heimat books because books from estates are often offered to the Heimat leaders before they go to used bookstores. - http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GERMAN-BOHEMIA...
