..the European Parliament has introduced new regulations on food labelling which have to be introduced before December 2014. (...) The new regulations (formally called "The Provision of Food Information to Consumers Regulations", but often shortened to the FIC) introduce many minor changes, but the most obvious and significant changes will be in areas: allergen information and nutrition labelling.
The old term of "Guideline Daily Amount" (or GDA) to give an approximation of how much of each nutrient and energy a typical person should consume has been replaced by the term "Reference Intake" (or RI). To add confusion for Vitamins and Minerals the Reference Intake will be referred to as Nutrient Reference Values (or NRV's!). At the moment the new regulations also only have one set of figures to cover all consumers, whereas under the previous rules there were separate GDA figures for men, women and children so the most appropriate figures could be used.

Labels on pre-packaged food and drinks are changing due to a new European Regulation.

The term ‘Guideline Daily Amount’ (GDA) will be replaced with ‘Reference Intake’ (RI) however the principles behind how these
values are determined remains the same.
