@franglish Maybe this will help: "An den 'warmen' Stellen bilden sich oft beachtliche Hohlräume, die unter Belastung zusammenbrechen können, was dann zum Abgang von Lawinen führen kann. An den 'kalten' Stellen entstehen große Kristalle (daher der Name 'aufbauende Umwandlung'), die... ganz besonders lawinenfördernd sein können."
