German term

gleichmäßigen Wirkungsverlauf

German to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals
SPC (cholinesterase inhibitor):

"[Drug name] retard besitzt cholinerge Eigenschaften; es gehört zu den Hemmstoffen der Cholinesterasen. Unter diesen Substanzen zeichnet es sich durch gute Verträglichkeit, schonenden Wirkungseintritt, gleichmäßigen Wirkungsverlauf, lange Wirkungsdauer und allmähliches Abklingen der Wirkung aus. "

My attempt: "constant/steady time-effect profile"

Any corrections? Any better ideas ( more idiomatic?)?

Thanks!

Discussion

Lirka (asker) Jun 18, 2012:
I am leaning towards "steady time-activity profile" now. I found a few articles by En-native authors referring to time-activity, also time-action, profiles.

stable action/time-effect profile

I found both action and time-effect profile and I couldn't see any significant difference.

Stable seems to me to meet the needs of the term and I found several hits for this.
Example sentence:

Degludec is an ultra-long-acting basal insulin analogue, which has a distinct slow absorption that provides a flat and stable action profile.

retains its effectiveness over time/ remains effective over time

The German is more euphemistic but I think that's what they mean..

"giving stable levels of effect"

If this is the type of medication we're talking about, we may already have a ready-made description:

"BRUFEN RETARD tablets are specially formulated to allow the gradual release of active substance giving stable levels and a prolonged duration of effect over the dosage interval."
