German term

(Teilnahme von) Redaktionen

German to English Marketing Journalism Press conference
The (Teilnahme von) in the term is just for additional context to distinguish this from the million other "Redakt.." questions. I only really need to make sure what is meant by this strange (to me) use of Redaktion.

----
----

Maybe I'm being deliberately thick here, but every reference I've checked puts 'Redaktion' as being the editors, the editing that they do and the place where they edit. It seems odd to me that the editors (as opposed to journalists) would attend a press conference. Would I therefore be correct in assuming this is something like a synonym for 'publications' (but possibly including TV and radio)?

TIA for helping make sense of this one!

Stephen

representatives from ... news organisations

My take is that 80 publications and/or broadcasters were represented at the press conference, which would probably involve in excess of 80 actual people (although not all of them journalists).
If "Redaktionen" refers to individuals, then perhaps either "journalists" or "editorial/media representatives" ...

In fact, "... media outlets" would be preferable.
Note from asker:
Yes, that's exactly what I was wondering - if it meant the people or the organisations. 'Media outlets' sounds like a possible safe option.
Peer comment(s):

agree Ken Cox : or 'media representatives'

agree writeaway

agree Michael Schickenberg (X) : Definitely along the lines of "representatives". It's just a way to say that people from 80 different media outlets (papers, TV, radio, etc.) attended the conference and reported on it.

Thanks for that native-speaker confirmation, Michael.
agree Textklick : Media outlets????? The agreement is with your top proposal>>Oh! "Newsstands" gets less Ghits, but "relevance" gets more ;-))

Yes, an obscure term that gets just 11+ million Googlies. ;-)
agree Paul Cohen : something along the lines of "representatives from over 80 news and media organizations". This has nothing to do with "editors" per se. They generally don't send editors to press conferences. They send their reporters to the front lines.

Exactly. I was about to say almost word for word what you said to Stephen (incl. the DW ref.!)
agree Susan Zimmer : with Paul

agree Rebecca Garber : This would cover many possibilities

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to everyone who contributed. I compromised between the two ideas and used "media organisations" in the end."

editorial staff

is what I believe you are looking for, stephen
Note from asker:
Thanks, that did occur to me as well, but didn't seem to make sense. I think I must be being thick this morning! Why would the editorial staff go and not journalists? Or are they synonymous in this case?

thanks linda
agree Ken Cox : probably reporters (who are classified as members of editorial staff, as opposed to the advertising department for example)
9 mins
thanks ken
agree Andrew Rink : or "editorial teams (of more than 80 publications)"
9 mins
thanks andrew
neutral Francis Lee (X) : What if a particular Redaktion is represented by more than one individual?
10 mins
see andrew's response for example
neutral Paul Cohen : It's more than just "editorial" staff, Stephen. I used to be a member of a "Redaktion" at a TV station. In the German media world, "Redaktion" often refers to an entire group (dept.) of reporters/writers/translators/editors who produce a media product.

'participation of over 80 mass media (representatives)' is implied here.
