Discussion

Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Feb 28, 2012:
Thanks for all the contributions! Am currently tending towards Carmen's "always one step ahead of the snails" though "wriggle/squirm" might be more appropriate for these slimers...
Ramey Rieger (X) Feb 28, 2012:
Revision We're in gear bfore the slugs appear. We jump into gear before the slugs appear, and so on......
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Feb 28, 2012:
client has informed me in the mean time that "slugs and snails" are to be used for "Schnecken". Also just received the original PDF, this line stands above a section vaunting how the company is always able to provide requisite quantities of fresh bait BEFORE the snail season starts.
Cilian O'Tuama Feb 27, 2012:
@Jon Any other words to play with? Powder, spray...
So little context - pit(h)y.
Cilian O'Tuama Feb 27, 2012:
So, of the two, "slug" is the word that can be played with, Jon?
David Hollywood Feb 27, 2012:
snails do do damage and slugs are not that nifty but the general connotation with "slug" is that it's a destroyer (not the case with the humble snail)
Cilian O'Tuama Feb 27, 2012:
Snails do damage. Are slugs fast? :-)
David Hollywood Feb 27, 2012:
I think "slug" is preferable to "snail" as snails mean "slow" and "slug" means "damage"
Cilian O'Tuama Feb 27, 2012:
You've decided on slug and against snail... ... for Schnecke, correct?
David Hollywood Feb 27, 2012:
not sure how much you want it to rhyme :)
Jonathan MacKerron (asker) Feb 27, 2012:
This motto is in line with their "just-in-time production method", i.e. they purposefully gear up for the impending slug season and always have fresh (!!) product ready to ship before the first critters appear.
Cilian O'Tuama Feb 27, 2012:
@Jon I'd need to ask 4-5 questions before hazarding a guess. Sorry, but too lazy for that. :-)

Production one step ahead of snails!

this fits with the just-in-time idea.

Speedy slugs steer our manufacturing

for starters
Peer comment(s):

neutral Cilian O'Tuama : I fail to see e.g. where the "speedy" comes from.

At a snail's pace? We're ahead of the curve

Another stab. (That'll be snail/slug population curve, as any gardener fears.)

invaded by slugs and snails? We're always up to the job. / Call us first. / We're your first line of defence.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Cilian O'Tuama : so they're the second slowest thing on the planet :-) // Just that "at a snail's pace" is too negative for a marketing slogan IMO.

Er, so maybe the question mark gets overlooked, but then I made more than one suggestion, so not sure what you're responding to!

We put paid to slugs and snails before they get out of hand.

On a sillier note, frei nach Churchill, 1940, prepare to repel the enemy before he crosses our herbaceous borders...

Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gastropod and all the odious apparatus of Nasty rule, we shall not slug or snail. We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the flower beds and rockeries, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the vegetable patch, we shall defend our Garden, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beeches, we shall fight in the potting shed, we shall fight in the fields and in the paths, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!
