German term

aktivierbar

German to English Science Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-)
"Limbale Stammzellen sind in der Regel undifferenziert, anatomisch in einer gut-geschützten und -vaskularisierten Nische lokalisiert, besitzen eine unbegrenzte Lebensdauer, und zeigen eine niedrige Zellteilungsrate, die aber aktivierbar ist."

I am looking for an adjective, if possible, in order to avoid saying ...'that can be activated' or sth along these lines. Or is it more scientifically accurate to say 'upregulated' instead of 'activated'? Or sth entirely different that would fit the context?
Thanks a lot!

Könnte vielleicht eigtl. accelerable o. ä. gemeint sein?

Selected

can be stimulated

another option - no adjective, unfortunately, but 'stimulation' seems to be commonly used with cell proliferation

activatable

(aktivierbar = aktivierungsfähig)

The cell division rate is low, but activatable.
Example sentence:

Development of activatable adenylate cyclase requires transcription but is independent of the fifth nuclear replication, cell division, and compaction.

agree writeaway : http://www.babylon.com/definition/Activatable/English http://dict.tu-chemnitz.de/deutsch-englisch/aktivierbar.html easily findable on www. fwiw don't see the word activatable in the sample sentence.......

neutral casper (X) : I've been wondering: How can cell division/proliferation rate be activated ? Would you care to share your insight(s) with us, Gabriellab ?

that can be accelerated

The source text talks of "Zellteilungsrate, die aber aktivierbar ist."

I don't see how a cell divsion/proliferation rate can be activated. 'Aktivieren' is used in the sense of 'accelerate', I think.

FWIW, "accelerated rate of cell division" googles pretty well.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Gillian Scheibelein : accelerate is the outcome, but not the mechanism; indeed, the German is not quite correct, either the rate is accelerated or cell division is activated, which accelerates the rate as a consequence. As the author used activated, I assume he meant division

I agree with you that "either the rate is accelerated or cell division is activated". Source text talks of 'Zellteilungsrate', not 'Zellteilung'. Ergo, I suggested 'accelerated'. I rest my case.

(a higher cell division rate) can be induced

...or "the cell division rate can be increased"

Here are two more suggestions, this is what I would use, either "induced" or "increased".
Peer comment(s):

agree Cetacea : IMHO the correct way to phrase it.
