Hiya Johanna! In this part of the text they are actually talking about cleaning wax (any kind) by heating it up and then cooling it very rapidly so that impurities fall to the bottom/float to the top. Does that help at all? I'm thinking they might mean a container with no ridges as I suppose they are using it like a giant "mould"?

Hi Hilary- does the text relate to the heating of beeswax in a container for 'dipping' candles or are they talking of moulds later on? Beeswax or paraffine?

Dunno... I found "undercut" in the dictionary too, but couldn't figure out what it meant in this context, i.e. what such a container would look like! Any ideas?

As in my response to Kim below it could be a container which is smooth, has not ridges, to ease removal of the candle.

Maybe it's a container which is smooth on the inside, has not ridges - for demoulding the candles.
