Context: " la galerie de ses personnages préférés : femmes longilignes *dessinées au couteau* et antihéros à la sombre personnalité, On y retrouve aussi son style inimitable; un *montage au scalpel*, des couleurs primaires ....". What would the English equivalent be, please? Also, is "montage au scalpel" a similar idea? Any help gratefully received!

for the montage au scalpel, I presume he's talking about editing and cutting out the superfluous so you could just say editing/cutting with a scalpel or cutting to the bone.
I'm sure tehre's something better but ...

Just browsing few a few Manga sites, a lot of them talk about using/drawing "sharp lines", which seems to fit here. You could even get creative and call them "scalpel-sharp lines".

Interestingly, for "montage au scalpel", you can find lots of colourful expressions about "going under the editing scalpel", wielding the editing scalpel, etc. I don't have time to look into this any further, but it could give you some ideas.
