French term

jeu de motifs

French to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting Description of a sculpture
In a text about a monument,
" Fidèle aux approches esthétiques de son époque, Hébert agrémente le piédestal d’un jeu de motifs décoratifs Art déco."

Here is what I have arrived at: "Following the aesthetic tastes of the era, Hébert decorated the pedestal with a X of Art Déco ornaments." - Perhaps I am sticking too close to the original, and that is why I am stuck?

Art Deco patterns

Perhaps too shorthand for some.
I have a wonderful book "1001 Patterns" which shows just that - patterns from all continents, all eras, taken from wallpapers, fabrics, rugs... and in French it is translated as "1001 Motifs."
