Goedaardige ovarium cysten

Non-malignant ovarian cysts

TVU is highly accurate in the differentiation between non-malignant and malignant ovarian cysts. However, distinguishing the many different non-malignant ovarian cysts is relevant as well, especially since accurate treatment depends on the histological origin of the cyst. Therefore a prospective study to assess the performance of TVU in the differentiation of non-malignant ovarian cysts was performed (chapter 5). A total of 406 women with ovarian cysts without malignant features on TVU were included. In 60% of cases the sonographers was able to state the histopathological diagnosis accurately. Only in case of simple ovarian cysts the constructed logistic model performed better compared to the subjective assessment of the sonographer (accuracy 0.88 (95% CI: 0.85-0.91) versus 0.81 (95% CI: 0.77-0.84), p < 0.01). In case of dermoid (accuracy 0.84 (95% CI: 0.80-0.87) versus 0.71 (95% CI: 0.66-0.76), p < 0.01) and endometriotic ovarian cysts (accuracy 0.87 (95% CI: 0.84-0.90) versus 0.82 (95% CI: 0.78-0.86) the sonographer performed better. Histological examination of non-malignant ovarian cysts is warranted whenever treatment depends on the histological nature of the cyst (e.g. in sub fertility and assisted reproduction).

----------------------------------------------------
Amen to that!
----------------------------------------------------

\'voldoende\'!/just \'satisfactory won\'t really do!]gehoor te

-----------------------------------------------
Sorry Ton, but that went over my head!
-----------------------------------------------

English - non Expat - hoogheid] mailcorrespondentie
andere, mogelijk belangstellende instanties, bijv. binnen

tegemoet. Ton&Jannie c.s.

No problem Ton.

I would suggest however, that if you disagree with any contributions, that are after all posted in good faith, you should back up your disagree with a valid argument.

At the end of the day, a sonographer is KNOWN as a sonographer and not an ultrasound specialist (apologies to P) .

Just as a an obstetrician is known as an obstetrician not a \"pregnancy and childbirth specialist\"

Get my point?

If the asker\'s text is intended for the medical profession then I am sure they would expect a recognised Dutch medical term to be replaced by a recognised English medical term. ie. sonographer.

Have a good weekend.

disagree Ton Remkes : Reasonably documented, but who knows/understands this term? Unnecessarily obscure.

So a term isn't right because Ton doesn't know or understand it. I understand the term. So do millions of prospective mothers. Seems like you're in the minority - again! How do you know for whom the text is intended?? Please see above
agree eldira : sonographer = 30.500 hits; ultrasonographer = 8940 hits; ultrasound specialist = 856 hits; in Indonesia modern mothers [and prospective fathers] understand utrasonography

Thank you eldira
agree writeaway : but there is nothing wrong with ultrasound technician-41,000 hits and ultrasound technologist 57,000 hits. (as if that matters).
