@Barend I agree with you that the phases of planning, monitoring and assessment are basically inherent to the performance management review cycle. Nevertheless, I think I would still specify them if I were the translator, just to be on the safe side :-)

'Introducing/impementing a performance management review cycle'

or

'Implementing/introducing a review cycle comprising planning, progress monitoring and assessment.'

Kitty I think that 'van plannen, voortgangscontrole en beoordelen' doesn't need to be translated if you use "performance management review cycle" since planning, check-in and assessment are inherent in this cycle, don't you agree?

That is:

"Introducing/implementing a performance management review cycle"

would do.

As I understand it on the basis of a number of translations I did in this field.
This pertains to a series of 'gesprekken' between the manager and individual employees.
In short:

'plannen' (planning): they discuss and make agreements about what is going to be done, goals are set, duties are defined, that kind of thing

'voortgangscontrole' (check-in): they discuss to what extent goals have been met, duties have been fulfilled so far

'beoordelen' (assessment) : they discuss the employee's performance with respect to the extent in which the goals have been met and duties have been fulfilled etc during the relevant performance management cycle

@Michael I agree with you that "interview cycle" would be safest without further context. At the same time, having dealt with quite of number of texts about performance management and as a former HR professional, I cannot help feeling that '(performance management) review cycle' is probably the most accurate term here.

@ Michael In this case, with the context + topic area (HRM) provided, I would say it's safe to say 'review cycle' is the correct interpretation. But you're right, we should never assume anything in translating :)

Even though 'interview cycle' is one of the possible translations of the term 'gesprekscyclus', I don't think it fits well in this case. Google yields more results pointing towards interview cycles = continuous job interview (including one of your example sentences) than otherwise:

Here in Australia the commonly used expression with anything performance-related is review: http://www.swinburne.edu.au/corporate/hr/pdr/home.htm

I have never heard of 'p&d talks'. The link you provided is a Dutch link and might not be 100% reliable.

@Natasha: A 'gesprekscyclus' means an 'interview cycle', or a 'round of discussions', as mentioned by Alexander.

However, just from the snippet ' Invoeren van een *gesprekscyclus* van plannen, voortgangscontrole en beoordelen', I wouldn't dare to say much more than 'interview cycle', without further context.

Interview cycle doesn't only mean interviews as in job interviews.

Dank je wel :-). Kortweg 'review cycle' is idd ook een mogelijkheid. Ik zou echter de tekst als zodanig moeten zien om te beoordelen welke vertaling het meest geschikt is. Mijn insteek is altijd: duidelijkheid boven letterlijkheid :-)
