‘We zitten natuurlijk heel dicht bij mekaar in de cockpit. Bovendien zijn we bijna altijd moe, dagen van huis en bij slecht weer kan er nog extra stress bijkomen. **Dan kom je jezelf en mekaar wel eens tegen!’**
The phrase 'that's when tensions can run high' occurs to me, but not sure whether the Dutch text has the same connotation.

I know the expression 'jezelf tegenkomen' mainly from a sports context, but it is also used figuratively in other contexts. IMO it usually means 'reach/discover your limit', usually in a more or less unpleasant manner (like 'hitting the brick wall' in long-distance running).
In this relatively informal context, 'reach the end of your rope' would be a similar expression in English (among other options).
The GWNT gives the definition:

you get to know exactly who you (and they) are
or something along these lines. Tension is not necessarily part of these situations, it's also about habits and behavioural patterns, how each person deals with stress and fatigue, you get to know all that in a situation like that. There's bound to be tension running high, but it is also about each individual person, internally, so to speak. Insight in your own personality, too.
