Sia Jesús l’amat del nostre cor amic Aladern (...) Cada matí tinc promeses de que s’’em, tornara la misa i cada vespre les veig trencades; lo demes no em va pas gaire millor. Alabat sia Déu. Alabat sia per les contrarietats i alabat sia per les prosperitats que m’envia, com el llibre de vostè “Verdaguer reivindicat”. Mai ningú havia trobades tan bones mes poesies, ni havia pujat tant amunt mos llibres, ni havia feta honra tanta a son pobre autor cabalment quan estava més pobre i caigut i aborrit fins de sos protectors, amics i parents.....

Let Jesus be the beloved friend of our dear friend Aladern (...) Every morning I make promises, I return to mass, and every afternoon I see them broken, others don’t fare any better. Praise be to God. Praise Him for our trials and praise Him for the prosperity that He delivers to me, as your book "Verdaguer reivindicat” [Verdaguer Vindicated]. Never has such poetry been seen, nor have my books been elevated, nor has so much been done to honour to his poor diligent author when I was poorer and miserable and cast out by even his protectors, friends and relatives ...
