Deutsch term

verbindlich zugesagt

Deutsch > Englisch Rechts- und Patentwesen Wirtschaft/Handel (allgemein) production deadlines
"Terminproduktionen unter XX Wochen sind auf Anfrage möglich und können nach Prüfung der Umsetzbarkeit verbindlich zugesagt werden"

The text is about a company who makes customized products. I'm not sure how to translate "verbindlich zusagen" accurately. I understand what it means, but I'm not sure what the nuances might be from a legal perspective.

Thanks.

Discussion

Catherine Winzer (asker) Mar 18, 2009:
Just to clarify: As some of you have suggested, this is a marketing text not a legal one. My hesitation was that I didn't want to write anything too general if the German phrase had legal connotations, or vice versa.

agree Yasdnil1 : this doesn'tlook like a legal text, so I agree that anything longer is not necessary

become definitive

Hello Catherine

I wouldn't consider the legal perspective indeed.
According to what I read, "verbindlich" when used against Angebot or Zusage brings the idea of something definitive, firm. Alternatively to my target term, you could also choose something like"become the end products" or "the definitive version"

Keep up anyway

binding committment to deliver

After feasibility has been established, binding committments to deliver can be given
If at all possible, I'd try to rephrase this to avoid the passive voice. Maybe: the company can give a binding committment to deliver

agree Rebecca Power : It seems my idea of "binding commitment" has been very cleverly incorporated into the sentence - this is certainly a good network...

obligatory confirmation

Of course, you'll need to reword. Something like "...subject to obligatory confirmation nach Prüfung der Umsetzbarkeit".

confirmed

I get the impression this is more to with marketing than with the contracts team: a shorter delivery time than xx is possible and will be confirmed after a feasibility check has been done.

undertaken as a binding commitment

the phrase "as a binding commitment" seems to fit well, but I am not so sure about the verb - it is just an immediate suggestion...
