Please explain the meaning of "play off" and "play on" in this context:

"Do not play" is set to 'off', "Do not play" is set to 'on'

You never know the gibberish the technies will come out with next, but this sounds likely. It's some control key or button for 'play' (playing a ringtone?) that you turn on or off.
