This is the first session in a 10-part course taught by Suzanne E. Deliscar, Lawyer-Linguist, as the first step in understanding patent legal terminology. It is initially designed for translators who are beginning to work in the legal translation specialty but also very helpful for the foreign lawyers starting their international practice. At the end of this course attendees will have increased knowledge with regard to legal structures and specific patent terminology found in various legal documents.


Are you interested in creating or expanding your repertoire of patent terminology? If so, this session is for you. “An International Overview - Patent Terminology” is the first session in this 5-part course taught by Suzanne E. Deliscar, Lawyer-Linguist, as the first step in understanding patent terminology. The second series (5 parts also) will take place in November 2015.

This course is approved for one (1) Continuing Education point by the American Translators Association (“ATA”) and the Dutch Bureau BTV.

Target Audience: Translators who want to start working in the legal translation field.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this course attendees will have increased knowledge with regard to legal structures and specific patent terminology found in various legal documents.

Prerequisites: None.

This course includes reference material.
