Discussion

Edith Kelly Mar 17, 2008:
Colin, there were questions along these lines by the same asker, they have been withdrawn or a moderator has cancelled them.
Colin Rowe Mar 17, 2008:
@EdithK & @hazmatgerman: 2 questions hardly constitute an entire translation job, or am I missing something here? I have seen frequent users of this forum post far more questions about a single text.
hazmatgerman (X) Mar 17, 2008:
Mit EdithK: diesen Eindruck könnte man bekommen, zumal es ein ziemlicher Satzteil ist.
Becky Heaviside (X) (asker) Mar 17, 2008:
I understand this - but the press release is 1500 words long so I have hardly asked for all of it!
Edith Kelly Mar 17, 2008:
You are asking bits and pieces of the whole press release, please post as a job. This is a help forum and not a free translation service.

One could hardly imagine a German provider achieving such penetration of the British market

"One could hardly imagine" and "penetration of the British market" would be my shot.

A German provider would certainly have an ARD time trying to achieve such success!
Example sentence:

During the early 1990s AMS had a considerable penetration of the British market with imported Well-Pict berries.

It was in iron and steel products that German penetration of the British market raised most concern.

Note from asker:
Thanks for the suggestion - and the support! :o)
Peer comment(s):

agree Lancashireman : Also with your comment above. The criticisms do seem rather on the heavy side.

Thanks, Andrew!
agree GeorginaW (X) : it is hard to imagine a German provider ... (a bit simpler)
1 hr
Thanks, I like it!
agree Jack Becconsall : And incidentally, that comment about the scope for German providers is unfortunately true, because the standard UK satellite TV offerings (Sky & Freeview) assume that nobody in this xenophobic island would be interested in DW-World, Phoenix, etc.
1 hr
Yes, Phoenix would be good. Arte, too.
neutral Edith Kelly : There were more quesitons but they have been withdrawn. This is the only one left where I commented on. // That's correct. But you should not pose questions with half the sentence in one question, the second half in a second question, i.e. long sentences.

Have I misunderstood KudoZ rule 32?: "By spreading your questions over the last two days of a project, for example, you can ask thirty (30)."// Thank you for the clarification.

It is barely conceivable...

It is barely conceivable that a German provider could give such a powerful performance on the British market.
Peer comment(s):

neutral sylvie malich (X) : a performance is "given" on stage, not on the market
