Law (general)
Divorce law, US
The following assets and obligations are awarded to Petitioner in the division of community property, or are confirmed to Petitioner as her sole and separate property, free from any and all claims of the Respondent and she is ordered to pay any encumbrance thereon and TO APPEAR ON BEHALF OF and hold Respondent harmless therefrom - shvaćam da bi značilo "pristupiti u ime", ali jednostavno ne razumijem u ovom kontekstu.

da istupa u ime
The ST makes perfect sense if you follow the logic of the whole sentence.
The following assets and obligations
are awarded to Petitioner in the division of community property,
or are confirmed to Petitioner as her sole and separate property,
free from any and all claims of the Respondent and
she is ordered to pay any encumbrance thereon
and TO APPEAR ON BEHALF OF and hold (the) Respondent harmless therefrom
the relevant thread:
The following ... obligations [that used to be common or husband's obligations]
are awarded to Petitioner in the division of community property,
or are confirmed to Petitioner as her sole and separate property,
... and
she is ordered to ...
...
... TO APPEAR ON BEHALF OF [**the respondent** (i.e. her ex husband) regarding these obligations that are now hers] and hold Respondent harmless therefrom (i.e. make sure that the respondent has no longer anything to do with these obligations)
"awarded" is a strange / misleading choice of words - she was "awarded" in fact not something beneficial to her but a burden - the obligation to assume herself some of the ex-husband's obligations.
"dodeljene" su joj u stvari obaveze, a ne samo prava, to je ono što unosi zabunu. Isto kao se kaže da je neko "nagrađen" kaznom za nepropisno parkiranje.
So if any third party makes a claim to her ex-husband regarding these obligations that are now hers, she must act on behalf of her ex-husband and make sure that her ex-husband is left out of the claim / not involved in any way (i.e. "made harmless")
Possible example: she was "awarded" the ownership of the house AND the husband's mortgage on the house that she now has to repay, so she must act on behalf of her ex-husband regarding the repayment of that mortgage and make sure no one tries to make her ex-husband involved in any way in the repayment of that mortgage.
Here "to appear on behalf of" is not about any specific "appearance in court" but about her general duty from now on "to act on behalf of / instead of" her ex-husband, so it's more accurately "istupati u ime".

pojaviti se u ime
Essence of acting or making legal appearances for someone else's benefit or on their behalf...
It implies that the petitioner is ordered to manage certain obligations and, in doing so, must act in a manner that legally represents or safeguards the respondent, essentially holding the respondent harmless from any liabilities or claims associated with those obligations.
Relevant exaple:
In the realm of divorce law in Croatia, a lawyer might "pojaviti se u ime" their client during court proceedings, ensuring the client's interests are represented, especially when it comes to the division of property, custody battles, or negotiating alimony. This phrase encapsulates the lawyer's role in acting on behalf of their client to secure the best possible outcome in the divorce settlement.

Note from asker:
Thank you, but this still makes no sense to me, because "Petitioner" does not refer to the lawyer, but to the other spouse in the divorce case. |

: That's roughly that as far the context-free general-purpose meaning of "to appear on behalf of" is concerned, but it's not really of any help as the real problem is the meaning ***of the whole sentence***.
