I find the Certified ProZ feature of ProZ very interesting.
Who had this idea?

I suggest to make an online voting system integrated in it, in order to decide some features.
What do you think?

I think the idea came from the Proz staff, who contacted a first group of members to get the ball rolling.

That's basically how it works at the moment. The dedicated forum is already very active and there are lots of ideas knocking around.

But if you want to be part of the programme:

http://www.proz.com/pro-tag/info/screening-criteria?tag_type=freelancers

you're going to have to become a member first

The opposite of voting Oct 2, 2008

Surely voting means majority rule, and certification means minority rule. How do you think voting would be reconsiled with certification? Or should only certified members be allowed to vote?

I entirely agree with you Samuel! Certification cannot be voted. If it was, students of universities would immediately vote that they want their certificates without exams.

Translation test Oct 2, 2008

What I think is missing in the Proz certification idea is a translation test. I think a translation test system should be added to the matter. For instance, a translation which was evaluated by two or three top-notch members, in exchange for a fee of course. Nobody should work for free.

Translation tests Oct 2, 2008

I did a translation test and passed a competition for the EU.
But my name was not Paredes or Bonet, so, no chance.

If ProZ is going to do the same, no interest thank you.

I know that democracy is not a perfect system, but it is the less worst of all of them.

[Editado a las 2008-10-02 09:14]

I still have a dream:

4 billion for, 2 billion against, 1 billion abstention.
Obligatory worldwide use of electric cars approved.

Felipe Gútiez wrote:

I received a first message about the initiative in late August. Apparently, the progamme was suggested by the response to an earlier Proz survey, in which a substantial majority of respondents expressed a desire to see professionals distinguished clearly from others.

I would be interested to know personally and gratulate the person who had this idea.

I'm sure Henry would say that it was a team effort by the site staff

Giles

If you look at the info on the programme, it says "peer review" and sample translation will be considered. The peer review involves stating that you have either worked together with somone on a project (and seen their work) or you have outsourced work to them and have seen their work (in a pair you work in). This is obviously more telling than a small test translation (IMHO).

I see Nikki. Are you suggesting I add sample translations to my profile? As far as I can remember I haven't worked in the same project as any other Proz user...

I'm not suggesting anything, and I don't know what is meant by sample translations exactly, so please ask site staff.
