No idea! November is starting busy as I’m translating 84 pages of legal documents related to child abduction. What will come next is always a great unknown, but usually November is rather busy and December very slow. We will see…

A bit slow Nov 1, 2022

I'm saying a bit slow, because I haven't had many new jobs over the past week or so. However, knowing my luck and the way things usually go, as soon this long weekend in Spain is over, my inbox will probably perk up a bit and things will actually be back to normal. I'm actually quite enjoying having a less hectic time of it workwise, as it gives me more time to do other things.

I never expect anything. I can't look into the future and there's always a possibility that one of your best clients leaves the industry or decides to dump you in favour of a cheaper translator because they have to cut costs. I'm currently working on a 70000 words translation, which will be followed by a 14000 words translation. This will keep me busy until half November. But even if I'm already working almost two decades as a freelancer and I have almost always had a full schedule, I've never felt certain or confident about future work. I guess it keeps me sharp and avoids me to become sloppy as far as quality is concerned.Collapse

Okay for now Nov 1, 2022

Late October/early November is a seasonally strong point for me, and business has been firm, as one might expect. Good flows up to the end of the month. Beyond that? Who knows.

Cautiously optimistic in the short term because many companies are flush with cash and happy to spend. Very cautious over the medium term, because I expect a recession that will put budgets (including translation budgets) under pressure. Companies are always slow to realise that the cycle has turned.

So, we should make hay while the sun shines, he said, glancing out of the window at cloudy skies and a damp lawn scattered with fallen leaves, and wondering if there is a word for a contra-seasonal metaphor.

I'm working on a huge project that's keeping me busy well into the New Year. I did allow time to be able to fit in other jobs, and I have another one right now, so I'm feeling very busy. Just the way I like it!

I have a $12,000 order for November and hopefully December will be the same.
