which I have been for a very Long time. Now, with 2 animals to look after and care for, I am so grateful for this possibility of working from home. With today's hot weather (in Germany and probably all over Europe) I would not like to sit in an office. Working from home is something I always wanted, but for a long time I did not have the guts to take that step.

A wrongly formulated question | Jun 19, 2013 |
"Being independent" in fact INCLUDES the other options as subsets. The "result" (I mean, an inevitably contradictory and highly unclear combination of %%, with some 50 % already guaranteed in favour of “Being independent”) can be easily predicted even at the very beginning of this poll However, the list of answers is not exhaustive. "Other" should be specified.

And to be honest - I haven't had much experience with anything else except having one's own business. I grew up with freelance translating parents but still I tried getting used to the idea of being employed ("it will give a steady income") and I really hated it. It was a constant and frustrating struggle of FINDING work. Now, with my own translation business, I let the work find ME and it works out beautifully. I could never imagine going back. I mean, who says no to the fact that the porch or the backyard can be turned into an office in the summer time...?

Ability to work from a variety of places | Jun 19, 2013 |
The fact that you are independent and that you have flexible work hours or that you can work with your favourite music in the background is really amazing but the ability to work from different places (start your translation in your office/home and then finish it in another country, for example) is priceless to me.
Meaning all of the above, except maybe for the "potential for higher income" (I worked as in-house translator for an EU institution and by then I earned more). We never know what the future holds and, even if I earn less, I have now a better quality of life: working when I want, where I want and with whom I want is priceless!
Samantha Payn Velká Británie Local time: 09:05 Člen (2008) ruština -> angličtina + ...

I simply can only agree with all the colleagues who already posted ... By the way, I'd like to add: the chance to work from a boat (what will probably be my case in a few years!). Ciao Marta B.
