My own kind of personal breakthrough would consist of getting clients to: - listen/pay attention; - factor in translation times when planning; - consider the awkwardness of certain formats for text modification; - value my services and respect me as an equal rather than a drudge. It's an ongoing struggle.

I'm waiting for a breakthrough in clients' treatment of translators and their willingness to pay us what we deserve. Just previewed and saw Neilmac's comment -- Hear, hear!

I'm just looking forward to being able to accept more of the jobs I'm offered as my kids grow less dependent on me. Actually, my clients tend to treat me quite well and pay what I ask.

Not exactly 'waiting' but I'd welcome a couple of things: 1) globally - a general epiphany that with respect to quality no amount of procedures can compensate or substitute skilled competent personnel whatever their function 2) nationally - some political change that would support enterprise and development in general, give us something back for my tax, insurance and social fund dollars, etc. .... I expect both are extremely unlikely ....

I would love to get one though. If only I could get into games translation, for example...

I'm planning on having a breakthrough by the end of this year - finding some new clients and getting some interpreting work near where I live so I don't have to travel to Shanghai all the time. I'm not waiting for it to happen, though. I know what I have to do to get there. I'm just working out when to take some time off and do it.

I'm always waiting, or working, for a breakthrough of some kind. Obviously it depends on what you see as a breakthrough. I suspect my definition may not be overly ambitious.

Other: I agree with not waiting to get a breakthrough. I make my own luck. Yes: winning the lottery On a more serious note: If a breakthrough were a bus, I'll surely be waiting for it. But my own destiny is a car, and I'm driving it.

Waiting is hardly ever a very good tool to achieve anything. Doing sounds more like my strategy.
