That's what we are, as a freelancer Apr 23, 2011

We are freedom and not bound by any day, included holidays.
If we like we do, if not we are on vacation. For me I like working on holiday since it cheers up my decision as a freelancer.... eureca!

It depends Apr 23, 2011

If I don't have something better to do, I am usually translating.

Enhanced prices Apr 23, 2011

I'm perfectly willing to work through holidays, weekends and at night, from time to time, as it fits my schedule and mood. I charge more 'if the assignment requires' the beyond-office-hours work. If not, and I just choose to do so because it's part of my own 24/7/365 supply of time as a freelancer, then I often don't charge enhanced rates for the work.

When you have a running job.........there is no holiday...be it public or private.
And when you are free(No work)........its a HOLIDAY.

I couldn't agree more.

As a freelancer I work when there's work and am off when there isn't any. This is all part of the 24/7/365. schedule. Furthermore, my/our holidays fall on different days than the commonly observed ones. This means that I'm available during days like Easter/Passover, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Bodhi Day, Eid-al-Adha, Boxing Day (Officially "Day of Good Will") and all others.

It depends Apr 23, 2011

Some religious holidays are very important to me (like Easter or Christmas) and I don't work on those days, as the religious activities keep me busy.

When it's a national holiday (28th of July->Peruvian Independence Day, or 1st of May->Labour Day), I normally work.

When I'm too tired and want to have a day free (and this one's on a holiday), I reject a potential job and use the holiday as an excuse to rest.

Yes Apr 23, 2011

Usually. Otherwise I'd most likely get bored...
Today, Saturday, I worked in the morning... and have decided to take the evening off, watch the football and chill out. Tomorrow, Easter Sunday, I'll be working again though!

Living locally, working globally Apr 23, 2011

As every country has it's one religious or state holidays then it means that other countries do not have such holidays.

And also working as freelancer the time difference makes us to work at any time of the day.

Yes Apr 23, 2011

I have been working since Friday and will be working on Sunday so that to finally have some free time on Monday
I would use the proverb "In for a penny, in for a pound" in relation to our work since when we agree on the translation terms and fees, there is no way back be it middle of the week or public holidays
Happy Easter, everyone!

only if I want to Apr 23, 2011

I usually don't, because I want to spend time with my partner and friends too from time to time. Being a freelancer doesn't mean the only thing I do is work work work.

I'm not ruled by public holidays Apr 23, 2011

I don't work during my holidays.

At Christmas I don't work as it's the one public holiday I observe. Not for its religious connotations but because it's our traditional time to get together with the family, relax and have a good time.

Easter doesn't mean a thing to me now that the children don't want to be sick on Easter eggs. It looks as though Easter in the south of France is going to be wet, windy and generall

Easter doesn't mean a thing to me now that the children don't want to be sick on Easter eggs. It looks as though Easter in the south of France is going to be wet, windy and generally dismal - I'll be working this year. Maybe I'll take a couple of days off during the week if the sun comes out.

Which public holidays should you observe anyway? The ones in your country of origin, where your family still live? The ones in your adopted country? The ones in your clients' countries? Ones connected with religions you don't subscribe to?
