TRANSLATION....MORE TRANSLATION...AND MORE.. Apr 18, 2011

No other profession can give me the satisfaction of Creativity as this profession provides..it is unmatched.....

The sense of freedom, knowledge of various fields, meeting new people, world wide competition that too with sitting at home, these are the few things that I love about translation ..... and there are many more...

It also gives me a feel of oneness with the whole world...as is rightly said in our culture..VASUDHAIV KUTUMBAKAM(WORLD IS A FAMILY)........ See more

A combination of many things Apr 18, 2011

10 years down the road I'm rapidly approaching retirement - unless the government decides to set retirement age at 70 or 75 years.

Most probably I will continue to translate, perhaps interprete a little too. By then my other career will have developed some more so that this work will also continue.

Most probably I will continue to translate, perhaps interprete a little too. By then my other career will have developed some more so that this work will also continue.

And traveling will increase as well as to improve/complete my knowledge of the native American languages to then also translate in these language pairs. Perhaps even write a multi-lingual dictionary.

In short: I'll go on working till the end.

In 10 years... Apr 18, 2011

I will be way past retirement age but I will most probably continue working as usual. However, if I get a decent retirement pension after all (enough to pay the bills), I intend to do more volunteering translation for a choice of organisations and/or try to get into literary translation.

Still translating Apr 18, 2011

As I have no pension arrangements to speak of, I hope to be able to keep on working happily until I eventually shuffle off to Buffalo...

Baking Apr 18, 2011

I'd like to bake and decorate cakes. Let them have cake instead of translations!

But I'll keep translating to pay my bills.

some of the same and something new Apr 18, 2011

In theory I will have retired, but I hope I will still be doing some translation and a lot more of my own writing, and maybe living again in a country where I will be speaking one of my second languages every day... (actually I hope that happens before then).

More interpreting Apr 18, 2011

I find intepreting much more interesting than translation and it pays a whole lot better too.

Still Working Apr 18, 2011

If I am still working ten years from now, that means I'll still be above ground, a real plus. And certainly if I am still above ground, I will continue to work; and on my own terms as always.

It amazes me how Neil's answer is nearly always perfectly suited to me, no matter what the poll .....

Of course, it would be very nice to win the lottery and retire on the proceeds, but at the moment I can't spare the cash for a lottery ticket, so not much chance of that.

If I'm still here, I'll be translating Apr 19, 2011

Henry said it perfectly.

I am also a landscape designer, so I may continue to dabble with that. I am writing a book, but hopefully it will have been published in one way or another by then and I can get back to my life.
