There are so many frauds believed to have posted jobs in Proz.com and cheated many translators. Our agency is among the 8 vendors who have been cheated by a Shanghai-based outsourcer.

In this connection, I will be pleased to share some clues you may find useful to identify a fraud.

Here are the clues:
- No entry in Blueboard (Proz)
- Outsourcer at the other end of the world
- Non-issuance of clear documents (PO...)
- Large translation jobs as the 1st or 2nd projects
- No website
- Fake website
- Claim the free email provider's website as their website in their profile
- Fake company name in the profile
- Fake company address in the profile
- Fake telephone no
- Multiple company names
- Use free email
- Multiple PMs for one project
- Rush jobs
- Offered rates too low or too high
- Immediately approve translator's rate.
- Sample too big

I have just rejected a job offered by a company that contacted me via my profile. It might be a good example of this warning.

They asked for a "sample text", so I referred them to my profile to check samples of previous jobs. They accepted my rate but sent me a 450 words "PAID" test which was going to be paid ONLY IF somebody in the company said it was "quality". They insisted on the so-called test because their needs were "unique". No record in the BB either.

There was no need for further search. They may send several different 450 words "sample tests" to different translators and get a job done by free.

Beware. The above clues given by ksbtranslation may not be enough to tell a cheater, but are a red light we should pay attention to. One is never too careful.
