On this issue, and restricting the view to ProZ.com only, probably it would not be a bad idea to create some kind of VID program for companies.

Dear GF, I like your suggestion, I have tagged it for evaluation and eventual implementation.

Kind regards,
Enrique

Enrique,
it should be already tagged for evaluation and eventual implementation since... October 2006 !!!

What took you so long, staffs? Should you wait until a member like me becomes a victim of scams?

I saw her posting today. What's going on here? Mar 2, 2009

I just saw that the outsourcer being discussed here has posted another job for Portuguese. What is going on here? Why didn't she reply my emails?

I have reported this matter to the Job administrator and send another email to her through Proz.

Regards,
Iwan

Frankly speaking... Mar 2, 2009

It's your job to exercise due diligence in carrying out business activities, is it not? All the signs of a bad deal were there, you just didn't want to see. And there are many like you on this forum. Sympathy is running a bit low, frankly speaking.

Contact ProZ.com Support Mar 2, 2009

Iwan,

I have reported this matter to the Job administrator

Not sure whom you're referring to exactly: as announced about a month ago, ProZ.com Support staff are now responsible for vetting jobs posted on the site. You may want to contact them, using a Support Request.

Best regards,
Ralf

I agree with you and I already did, especially for this project.

All the signs of a bad deal were there, you just didn't want to see.

How did I know that she was using other company's name in the first place? There was no entry in her BB. Even Proz staffs still allow her to post many jobs until today.

I am sad. She could post another job but she could not reply my emails. Now I don't know whether I will get paid. That's too bad!

Vendors are being marginalized.

Thanks.

Perhaps you did, but it was obviously not enough. Mar 4, 2009

Did you check if her email address matched this "famous IT company"?

Did you ask her for a direct telephone number? If you did, what was her answer?

Did you call the switchboard of this "famous IT company" to verify if there was in fact such a person?

Did you ask her Chinese name when you had difficulty contacting her via the company's telephone switch board? If you did, what was her answer?

Maybe next time I should hire a detective before accepting a job posted in Proz.

Another victim Mar 5, 2009

Another victim of this outsourcer has just contacted me. She will post a support ticket to Proz. She has not been paid since January. Now she is really concerned.

It is getting worse.

Best regards,
Iwan

Ask her to post a Blue Board entry Mar 5, 2009

Hi again, Iwan,

Ask her to submit a Blue Board entry, together with a non-payment report - moderators need a minimum of two non-payment complaints in order to invoke the ProZ.com Termination Policy.

Best, Ralf

She will do it after 12th March Mar 5, 2009

Thanks Ralf. She will try to email or call the outsourcer to check if she is a liar or not, and also mention me. The outsourcer once emailed her saying that their payment date is 12th of each month, since she missed Feb 12th, she has to wait till March 12th. Then she will wait till 12th. If nothing happens, she will post her comments on Proz.

However she and I are worried that we will not be able to claim the payment if Proz invoke Termination Policy.

Best regards,
Iwan

Classic excuse Mar 5, 2009

Hi again,

However she and I are worried that we will not be able to claim the payment if Proz invoke Termination Policy.

If someone is unwilling and/or unable to pay, the Blue Board won't make a difference.
In contrast, outsourcers who value their reputation will try to get problems resolved.

Best regards,
Ralf

How did she miss the February payment date, if she is waiting since January?

Here is what she said:
I also worked on several projects for this outsourcer in January, but
have not received any payment from them. They emailed me back saying that their payment date is 12th of each month, since I missed Feb 12th, I have to wait till March 12th. Are you in a similar situation?

I am sorry she preferred to wait until 12th March before making any comments here.

BTW I received email from a Portuguese translator who has worked for the same outsourcer but has not been paid.

Thanks.

Iwan
