: I can't agree, too simplified. "Tribe" is "племя", it may be OK for the previous question, but not for this one. + "Society", maybe? I'm not that self-confident to challenge native speakers, it's just about back-translation and my love to history :)

Kirill, yeah, you may be right, to me community and neighboring are a little too contemporary, but it's really hard to tell, as usual, the asker didn't offer much context.

А если из контекста понятно, о какой общине идет речь - о роде или о целом племени - то, соответственно, nearby clan или nearby tribe. В противном случае - просто neighbors.
