Discussion

jccantrell Mar 16, 2011:
Well, you do have a picture of it, so you are one step ahead of us.
David Williams (asker) Mar 16, 2011:
It might be but I think it is "more" than just a mounting bracket. It is, after all, quite a specific term, and by no means as generic as that.
jccantrell Mar 16, 2011:
How about something simple, like "mounting bracket?"
David Williams (asker) Mar 16, 2011:
How about a literal translation/transliteration like "fitting spider" or "attachment spider"?

This is for an aircraft pressure bulkhead, by the way (just in case that wasn't clear).
David Williams (asker) Mar 16, 2011:
Yes, I've got a photo of it It is basically simply a cross of 2 (or 4) rods attached to the back of the bulkhead, offset at 45° from horizontal/vertical.
Armorel Young Mar 16, 2011:
Are you sure it's a rigid thing? I think of a Befestigungsspinne as being one of those arrangements of stretch straps that you fix things to your car roofrack with. If there's a picture, what does it show?
David Williams (asker) Mar 16, 2011:
I'm thinking along the lines of attachment frame
or
reinforcement frame

(radial) retaining brackets/rods

Use radial if you want the 'spinne' effect otherwise keep it simple.
I assume the photo will accompany the text in the final document?
Note from asker:
Yes this is simply annotation to accompany the photo.

attachment spindle/spindle clamp

this is my take after looking at several photos, I didn't find a direct translation.

The form is more spindle-like than spider-like, and when google translates it with spider, it has to be wrong! "Shaft" or "mandril" are also alternatives. A laundry spindle comes to mind.....
Note from asker:
How do you arrive at spindle? Just because it sounds a bit like Spinne? Sorry, but I'm not convinced.
