Actually Sven is right, but the issue is complicated by kennel club nomenclature, which is different in different countries. A bloodhound is a kind of scent hound (vs. sight hound), which includes other dogs like dachshunds, etc. In German, the term Schweißhund is used generally to refer to all scent hounds, but it is also used as a synonym for the specific breed bloodhound, which in German is also known as a Bluthund (cf. http://de.encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761559117/Bluthund.ht... So Sven\'s take better fits this context, i.e. that \"scent hound breed\" makes better sense here. But in many situations this term would refer to a bloodhound specifically--hence Langenscheidt\'s sole translation of \"bloodhound.\"
