German term

ersatzpflichtige speditionsverschuldete Vermögensschäden

German to English Law/Patents Insurance Insurance contracts
Sometimes German still manages to flabbergast me :)
How the Germans manage to make such wonderfully convoluted phrases.
Can anyone untangle this phrase please?

I'm commenting on the question, not the answer. The asker said she thought the phrase was convoluted, and I disagreed.

Breach of site rule 3.4 again @ Phil G. The only acceptable means of commenting on another's answer is by using the peer comment feature. Using the discussion area, the answer posting form or the answer explanation box to comment on another's suggestions is not allowed.

It's also unfair giving prominence to any one answer and before any others have been received.
philgoddard Mar 13, 2013:
I don't think it's convoluted. It says in three words what Andrew has said in ten though, as he points out, his translation is only three characters longer. So it's a tradeoff between words and characters. (But yes, English is often better than other languages at saying things concisely.)
Sarah Michel (asker) Mar 13, 2013:
haulage companies working for the companies I thim haulage companies working for the companies I think
philgoddard Mar 13, 2013:
Are these policies for the haulage company or the customer?

damage sustained in transit for which the carrier is liable

Only three more characters than the original

NB 'Schäden' = NOT damages (plural)
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : "For which the carrier is liable" may not be necessary, as the asker has clarified that the policy is for the carrier, so it obviously wouldn't include damage for which the carrier is not liable.

indemnifiable economic losses caused through the hauliers' fault

Don't forget the ersatzpflichtig and that the financial losses may be caused other than in transit, namely by demurrage.

A long-winded phrase maybe boiling down what is covered by a carriers' professional idemnity insurance.
Note from asker:
Thank you for your assistance:)
Peer comment(s):

agree Paul Skidmore : this answer is closer to the meaning of the German / unsure about PEL. "indemnifiable loss and damage arising through" ... might be a way round this.

Thanks. The doubt I had was whether this is PEL = 'pure' economic loss in tort.
