Deutsch term

gute Tageskondition

Deutsch > Englisch Wirtschaft/Finanzwesen Allgemeines/Konversation/Grußworte/Briefe Psychometric testing
I think I know what this is, and the context seems to make it clear - though there are very few if any hits for it in the usual places. So I thought I'd post it for easy points and to add it to glossary for future. Plus some of you might have nice ways to phrase it

It's in a letter to new employees about a forthcoming psychometric test they have to undergo:

"Was soll ich zum Verfahren mitbringen?

Einen Stift, einen Bleistift und eine gute *Tageskondition*.

Sie sollten gut ausgeschlafen, gesund und in guter Form zum Verfahren kommen. Bitte bringen Sie keine Notizzettel und Blöcke mit, Sie bekommen alles im Raum von uns, denn es dürfen nur speziell vorbereitete Materialien und Notizblöcke in diesem Verfahren verwendet werden. "

Discussion

Horst Huber (X) Aug 18, 2014:
With Johanna. It's not an attitude or an outlook. It is physical. "Mr. October" was in post-season form when it counted. It can change from day to day, when the athlete may or may not "have it".
Ramey Rieger (X) Aug 13, 2014:
@Alison and at peak performance - that's enough! Post it, post it, post it!
Alison MacG Aug 13, 2014:
A pen, a pencil and a/your peak performance state Another alliterative idea for the whole sentence, although this comes rather from external advice on how to handle these tests, such as here:

there are a number of things you can do to put yourself in peak performance condition
...
Get your brain in peak performance mode
Make sure you are well rested and nourished on the day of the test so that you are in the best mindset possible.

Tageskondition: die Kondition an dem bestimmten Tag (otherwise it would just say „Kondition“)
(vgl “unterschiedliche Tageskonditionen”)
Nicht ausgesprochen, aber mitschwingend: es ist tunlichst dafür zu sorgen (durch entsprechendes Verhalten am Tag/Abend zuvor :-), dass man am fraglichen Tag gut ausgeruht und leistungsfähig ist.

Any nice ideas for the whole sentence? That's the tricky thing: "Einen Stift, einen Bleistift & eine gute Tageskondition". Nice little challenge!

IN TIPTOP FORM

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Sorry for delayed selection - been busy- but thanks everyone for your suggestions. I liked this one best (the variant ending simply 'and yourself, in [OR on] tiptop form' in the end. An alternative would be a combination of this with David H's suggestion (and yourself, fit and ready to go). Here are my reasons: - It includes a noun phrase, required by the question, which some of the answers don't. - For me, it matches the level of 'gute Tageskondition' without overdoing it. This was important for two reasons: first, 'Tageskondition' reads to me as a fairly mild and sober term; and second, because the whole document is on the dry side and a very flamboyant rendering here would not work so well in context. - Although I agree that it implies that you should arrive well-rested, the following sentence states this explicitly and so some of the suggestions would make the translation repeat itself. - This has a nice idiomatic quality."

good stamina and engergy for the day

That is an interesting one indeed. Perhaps the following would work: A pen, pencil and some good energy and stamina to get you through the day.
It definitely makes no sense as a literal translation.
Example sentence:

A pen, pencil and some good energy and stamina to get you through the day.

It has allowed me to be free to experience and love life, with purpose, without baggage and with a whole different energy! Much more joyful, bouncy, vibrant and with bags of vitality.

Canines too!
He is currently in a foster home with 3 other dogs, 5 cats and a 3 year old child and he really is no trouble at all. Theo is 11 years young and still has bags of vitality and many good years left in him.

Or "a profusion of"
Or "potloads of"

neutral Armorel Young : The problem is that the question is "Was soll ich mitbringen?", so the answer has to be a noun.

Your best day form

"Bring a pen, pencil and your best day form"

Even though 'day' is used in a slightly different way than in the German (which focuses more on stamina), it still gets as pretty close to the original without being wildly inaccurate. Compare with link below:

"Use your best day form.
Whenever possible, utilise your day form = the time/s of day when you are in better form to do your prioritised tasks."
