Sie sollen einen Geldtransport überfallen, der für eine Nacht in der Stadt Station macht.

Please keep in mind that this is the wild west. I know that they are typically called stage coaches, but is there a special term for ones that transport money?

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you!" Although both were good answers, I could not be sure what was in the bags of money, so a general term was better!"

bullion shipment

You might say they are going to rob a stage coach with a bullion shipment.

Wells Fargo and gold are invariably linked together. Wells, Fargo & Co. moved so much of the West's treasure that it compiled the universally accepted statistics on gold and silver production. Treasure shipments were carried in dark green wooden boxes placed in the front boots of stagecoaches. J.Y. Ayer, a San Francisco carpenter, fashioned these sturdy containers from ponderosa pine, strengthening them with an oak rim and iron strapping.

Iron safes built under the back seats of stagecoaches, and iron chests on steamboats and railroads provided extra protection for Wells Fargo's larger bullion shipments. Wells Fargo's Instructions to Agents gave complete details for the secure handling of gold and silver.

Peer comment(s):

neutral Kcda : Money in those days could be gold bars, silver coins and hence bullion shipment could work. But I am not fully convinced hence "neutral". The greenback was not around in the wild west?

agree Rebecca Garber : Paper money was in circulation, but gold and silver coins were preferred, particularly in the West, where foreign coins were also used as currency based on weight. Two of the US mints (D & S)are in the west where gold and silver were discovered and mined.

Yes, a distinct possibility, but I guess Michele's solution is safer if you don't know exactly what was being shipped.
