German term

Schwingung

German to English Other Esoteric practices
This is about the Law of Attraction of which there is a wealth of information - "like energy attracts like energy"...
However, I'm having difficulty with this phrase:

...Denn jeder Deiner Gedanken ist pure Energie die du aussendest... und diese ausgesandte Energie sucht sich auf ihrem Weg eine gleichschwingende Energie. Sie sucht sich also eine Energie die mit unseren Gedanken in Resonanz steht. ***Diese Energie wird von unserer Schwingung ebenfalls in Schwingung gebracht*** - das ist die wesentliceh Aussage des Resonanzgesetzes.

Non-PRO (1): philgoddard

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Anne Schulz Dec 12, 2017:
"Sympathetic resonance", what a wonderful expression – even the sounds and syllables seem to harmonize. (Why don't we have a similar expression in German??) Lesley, you should seriously consider to integrate that into your translation :-)
Lancashireman Dec 11, 2017:
sympathetic resonance Sympathetic resonance or sympathetic vibration is a harmonic phenomenon wherein a formerly passive string or vibratory body responds to external vibrations to which it has a harmonic likeness. The classic example is demonstrated with two similar tuning-forks of which one is mounted on a wooden box. If the other one is struck and then placed on the box, then muted, the un-struck mounted fork will be heard.

Helen Shiner Dec 11, 2017:
@Lesley Ok, but that wasn’t what you posted. This energy will also be made to vibrate in response to the vibrating/resonance of our energy. Or just simply ‘our vibration’. I’m sure you can refine that. Just giving the the basic sense.
Lesley Robertson MA, Dip Trans IoLET (asker) Dec 11, 2017:
@ Helen It's not the term itself, but rather the expression here "Diese Energie wird von unserer Schwingung ebenfalls in Schwingung gebracht"
Helen Shiner Dec 11, 2017:
@Lesley One way of translating this would be ‘vibration’. Another ‘resonance’.

frequency, vibration

In esoteric texts, "frequency" is sometimes used for "vibration [of a given frequency]"
It may be easier to construct a phrase like the one of your source text with more than one word available for "Schwingung".
Hope this helps!
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : Frequency doesn't work in this context, but vibration is fine.

Thanks much, Phil – my point was that in esoteric texts "frequency" is in fact used in a way that is totally inappropriate for a physicist. They might say, "This energy is set/put in vibration [or whatever] by our *frequency*...", AFAIK.
