German term

24er Mauerwerk

German to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering masonry
This is from a report considering damage to property as a result of explosions and blast waves.

Zerstörung 24er Mauerwerk....

then again later on

Zerstörung 50er Mauerwerk....

I've no idea what is meant by the figure in this context. Is it the 24th row of bricks - or something completely different?!

Any suggestions will be extremely gratefully received.

Much appreciated, John - I'm sure you're right. How odd that I've never come across this in 20+ years of translating! You learn something every day....

agree Steffen Walter : or, indeed "24 cm thick *masonry* (walls)" (Claire put "masonry" in the subject field already). Thanks - you seem to be right here.

AFAIK, masonry is the superordinate term that icludes all kinds of materials, whilst 24er Mauerwerk definitely involves bricks.
agree Andrew D : 24cm is one of about five standard widths of brickwork. http://www.ziegel-eder.de/produkte_plainziegel.php
