German term

Mehrspartenprogramm

German to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama museums, theaters
I'm sorry I don't have more context, as it's in a list of statistics, but I assume it is some kind of program for museums, theaters, concerts, etc.

Discussion

Francis Lee (X) May 2, 2007:
Could it be some kind of gala event featuring e.g. Verdi's Rigoletto followed by a juggling Amish etc.?
Nadine Kahn May 2, 2007:
(drama, comedy etc.), they'll say, there is a large variety of programmes, plays.
Nadine Kahn May 2, 2007:
It don't think the German term is very common regarding cinemas/theatres, it's rather used for TV. Programme would fit for museums, theatres as well. My bf actually is an actor and he didn't hear it either, so if they want to offer multiple "Sparten"
David Moore (X) May 1, 2007:
It might help to know what comes before and after it in the list...WHAT the list seems to be concentrating on...

Peer comment(s):

agree Diana Loos : In the context of a theatre, a "Dreispartentheater" offers straight plays, opera/operetta/musicals and ballet. The answer depends on what kind of programme is meant!!!

Your confirmation means a lot, coming as it does from a specialist in music and music theatre. Thank you, Diana

program with multiple specialities

A 'Spartenprogramm' is among others the German term for a speciality TV-channel that exclusively concentrates on a single subject such as news, sports, music-videos.

In the context of museums a 'Mehrspartenprogramm' might mean that it combines or mixes exhibits from different types, disciplines or subjects such as art, natural science or history.

In the context of theatre it might refer to a program assembled from several genres.

Without knowing the context it is hard to give a good translation. I would suggest something more general along the lines of 'multiple specialities' instead of going with something specific like multidisciplinary or multi-genre.

Im Sinne von "Es ist für jeden etwas dabei".
Example sentence:

rather than treating it as a general interest channel and adding it to a package along with other channels.

Note from asker:
The context is definitely the stage and the theater, rather than TV.
