German to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Die Drehzahl der Gelenkwellen beträgt 540 bzw. 1000 1/min ( siehe Aufkleber, techn. Daten. ...)

Die Gelenkwelle muss dem Schlepper angepasst werden, d. h. sie darf selbst bei stärkstem Einschlag nicht gestaucht werden.

Discussion

David Moore (X) Mar 28, 2006:
@Rolf: would this PTO shaft not be an extension of the lay-shaft? In certain types of gearbox (e.g. the Land Rover), does this not have two speeds? This might explain the "independence of gears", and 540/1,000 rpm. I admit gearboxes are not my forte...

direct drive

I think this is the phrase in this context.

neutral David Moore (X) : You may be right, but how has it two speeds?

Perhaps there are two PTOs, or one can have two speeds, but it is never driven thru the gearbox driving the tractor wheels. I think 'gangunabhaengig' refers to that gearbox.

independent of gear

so the PTO shaft is a constant-speed shaft, independent of gear, as I read it.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Teresa Reinhardt : Beg to differ, could also be a variable-speed PTO; and it sounds very translated
