Discussion

Francis Lee (X) Jul 13, 2007:
Context/readership? Where does the term appear etc.?
Textklick Jul 12, 2007:
What do you understand "öffentlichen Raum" to mean"? On public display?
shoraka (X) (asker) Jul 12, 2007:
I'm not sure either whether you can say outside advertising either. This document is basically about a competition in advertising and theey talk a lot about public space and 'öffentlichen Raum gestalten', I understand Aussenwerbung would be stuff like billboards...?
Courtney Sliwinski Jul 12, 2007:
How about "outside advertising"? I'm not sure if this is what you mean without a little more context.

outdoor advertising

This is what is given under *Ausenwerbung* in Gruber's "Sprachen in Wirtschaft und Technik", Huber, 1994"

Out of home media

It sounds awkard but is based on the provided links. There might be a better suited term.

Stupid of me it should have been out of home "advertising"!

disagree Textklick : More suited for the U.S. than the U.K. I Googled it with us and uk suffixes and was not surprised that I had not come across it.

neutral Gert Sass (M.A.) : Whether or not a coll. has encountered this expression before is of course absolutely irrelevant. In fact, both terms - OOH media and OOH advertising (which would o. c. be more appropriate here) - do exist. Still the question is lacking context to be sure

public advertising

I also feel somewhat unsure due to a lack of context (what would be the opposite to Außenwerbung?), but this seems to come closest to your description.

i. e. advertising in 'public space' (öffentlicher Raum)

Ganz allgemein:
Außenwerbung = outdoor advertising (u.a.)
Werbung im öffentlichen Raum = public advertising (u.a.)

neutral Textklick : Sorry pal, doesn't cut the mustard IMO. Added: I note that you have reconsidered. I would guess that is a competition for the creative/artistic effect that "A" has in public places, but the question is a little vague.

This suggestion, as you may not have noticed, referred to the broader concept of “Außenwerbung im öffentlichen Raum”, where due to a lack of context it was not clear if A. referred to outdoor advertising (=the natural translation) or maybe sth else...
neutral Allesklar : z.B. Fernsehwerbung ist auch 'public' aber nicht 'außen'

Stimmt. Raum"=public advertising.
