English term

the battle and the breeze

English to Portuguese Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting livro sobre arte
The catalogue contained lines from Thomas Campbell’s Ye Mariners of England: “The flag which braved the battle and the breeze, now no longer owns her.”
Gostaria de saber se the battle and the breeze é alguma expressão idiomática ou se é somente: a batalha e a tempestade?

Discussion

Nick Taylor May 28, 2014:
Curiously... Naval ensigns tend to get shredded at the tip by the wind over prolonged periods. That is why (it's nothing to do with this case tough) the red part of the Portuguese flag is bigger than the green!
