I agree. Then, in fact, there's no disagreement between the two of us; what I meant by simple solutions was just that, i.e. sticking to a single (through X to Y) type of contruction without considering other possibilities.<br><br>

Anyway, my impression is now that there's no structural parallel in English that would evoke this "mottoishness" clearly and unambiguously only by formal means (without sounding contrained, of course)...as someone involved in linguistics, I find it very interesting from the comparative perspective. Sorry to bother you with something that must be obvious to you, ha ha! :-)

I understand your need to stick to a certain concept, but, with your permission, I don't think that you might be able to get anywhere unless you depart from it. It is passive, uninspiring, and it will leave you totally stuck.
I am not the only one here who believes that there ARE, indeed, solutions here, and creative ones, too. When the basic premise is, for our purposes, catastrophic, there is no other way but up.

Some mottos I've found Thank you, Hannah. It's funny that most of the mottos of this type that I've found are translations from Latin, and often military in origin:<br><br>

Per-astram-based mottos:<br>
through adversity to the stars<br>
through struggle to the stars<br>
through boldness to the stars<br>
through labour to victory<br>
to the stars through difficulties<br><br>

Others:<br>
through battle to glory<br>
through knowledge to excellence<br>
through straits to heights<br><br>

Still, there don't seem to be any negatives...<br><br>

Anyway, I'm afraid there's no simple solution. Each of the phrases will have to be handled individually, perhaps, depending on the level of irony or sarcasm behind, intended "instructiveness", etc.<br><br>

Myslím, že na to aby to byla hesla jsou nutná slovesa vyjadšující akci, protože, jak už psal Vladimír, podstatné jmeno je pasivní
Gramaticky se musí vyjádřit ty předložkové pády, což je v angličtině bez sloves těžké


"Sportem ke zdraví" Exercise for health. / Stay healthy through exercise.


"Sportem proti stresu" Fight stress, exercise

"Sexem proti stresu" Get rid of stress, have sex. / Ha ha ha

"Smíchem proti stresu" Laugh your stress away / Ha ha

"Sportem k trvalé invaliditě" ???????????????????????? this one is rather funny

Ale vsetky taketo frazy by mal prezriet native speaker, ci mu zneju prirodzene.

2 Asker Ale ano, samozrejme ze to ide! Aj pri present simple sa da zachovat heslovity /sloganovity charakter/ , len na to treba trochu inak:
"Make sports to keep yourself healthly"

"Make sex to relieve stress"

"Laugh loudly to make your life free of stress"

atd. atd.

Da sa s tym nadherne pohrat, pouzivat rozlicne synonyma, vyjadrovat frazy rozlicnymi sposobmi a stale to drzat v rozkazovacom spôsobe, tym prave v anglictine vyjadrite tu sloganovitost.

Hesla, mota, zvolání Moc děkuji za Vaše odpovědi. Jakkoliv jsem se snažil Googlit, zatím jsem nic přesvědčivého neobjevil.<br><br>

Problém je trochu se zamýšleným "heslovitým" charakterem oněch českých frází:<br><br>

"Sportem ke zdraví"<br>
"Sportem proti stresu"<br>
"Sexem proti stresu"<br>
"Smíchem proti stresu"<br>
"Sportem k trvalé invaliditě"<br>

apod.<br><br>

Napadly mě předložky či předložková spojení typu "via", "by (means/way) of", ale to stejně příliš neřeší, jak naložit s těmi negativními.<br><br>

Pakliže, jak navrhuje pan Hoffman, užijeme present simple v kombinaci s vhodnými slovesy (s kladným či záporným významem), vyvstává zde otázka, nakolik bude zachován onen "heslovitý" charakter.

A nabízí se samozřejmě další otázka: zda vůbec existují fráze tohoto typu v angličtině? K tomu by skutečně bylo zapotřebí rodilého mluvčího.<br><br>

Momentálně čekám na odpovědi několika přátel z Británie a Států; pokud s nimi na něco přijdu, hned se tu o to s Vámi podělím. :-)<br><br>
