The risk of exposure to predators and herbivores must be weighed against the opportunity to have full access to sun and nutrients.

Учитывая, что после "limit allocation of energy to vegetative growth" идет "choosing instead to grow fast and invest in", у меня есть некоторые сомнения...

Небольшие растения ограничивают количество энергии, выделяемой на вегетативный рост или наоборот всю энергию только на него и направляют?
