In most Arab villages, deliveries are made at home with elder ladies of the family attending. Occasionally a midwife could be called, most often even a midwife is a rare luxury, let alone a nurse or a doctor.

Explanatory Memo
In Iraq, when the birth registeration is done after the child is three or four years old due to the fact that the birth occurred in a remote village, where unlicenced midwife helped, the father may submit an apllication supported by an explanatory memo written by him explaining the circumstances under which the birth is given. Afterthat he can get a birth certificate for the child.
